The Oakhurst First Aid Squad has been serving the Township Of Ocean, Fire District Number 1, since 1928. We are a volunteer service made up of your friends and neighbors. We were there to help with the tragedy of the Hindenburg at Lakehurst and were there when the Morro Castle went aground and survivors were brought into Asbury Park. We responded to The World Trade Center bombings in 1993 and again in 2001. We responded to provide support services for Hurricane Katrina evacuees. We are here every day to help the citizens of and the visitors to the township of Ocean. We are here to help you.
The Oakhurst First Aid Squad is staffed by Emergency Medical Technicians and Certified First Responders. EMT is the nationally recognized standard throughout the United States. All members start their training with CPR, or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the basic class with the most important life saving skills. Members may chose to become First Responders or be trained by the New Jersey State Department of Health as an Emergency Medical Technician – Basic.
The Oakhurst First Aid Squad provides all training free of charge to prospective members. All classes are taught at many convenient times, places, and schedules to fit your busy life. Study groups are available should you need them. Squad members are here to assist you should you need a mentor through the class. Daytime Monday – Friday classes and evening classes begin every three months.
You will always have a buddy through the entire training period. We feel that if you are willing to invest your time in our town, we are more than willing to invest our time in you!
Once you complete the training, there is a short probation time when you get to know the squad. You will be given a pager, first aid kit, and other supplies when needed. We will expect you to spend time training with us each month. In addition, you may be asked to standby on a duty crew.
The Oakhurst First Aid Squad is a proud organization that has participated in many historic tragic rescues. But we have also been there for countless happy times. We have delivered many, many babies, even a set of twins! Please, won’t you join us?
